4/30 Random Facts About Me

List 10 things you would tell your 16 year-old self, if you could.

1. Slow down around that curve!!!  Wrecking on your dad's birthday is not a fun thing to do.  And it hurts like hell after!

2. Stay friends with your girlfriends.  Don't give up friends just because you're with Courtney - he'll still be there!

3. Keep playing the flute or learn to play something else!!  You will have a son who will be musical and it would be nice if his mommy could teach him to play an instrument of some sort!

4. Save more money each week from your paycheck!!  It would be really nice to have more money saved up when you get in to college & it will be easier to continue to save later in life.

5. Learn how to change a tire, change oil, change spark plugs, etc.  Learn how to be a handy woman!!

6. Run!!!  You will somewhat enjoy running later & will want to run but if you don't start when you're young it will be difficult!

7. Stay active!  You will give up cheerleading but stay active!  You will want to remain active for your life to make so many things easier: not gaining a ton of weight when you're pregnant, losing weight after you have your son, feeling better about yourself!

8. Love yourself more.  You are a great girl & you will grow up to be a great woman.

9. Don't care so much about what other people think about you.  It will be much easier to not care what they think of you later on!

10. Eat better.  It will be much easier later in life to eat better!

Wow - if only I knew then what I know now!

Reindeer Cael!

I got in trouble with Uncle Curt for not posting a picture of Cael a few days ago when I was writing the random me facts.  Yesterday Cael was walking around with a reindeer headband on his head and thought it was so funny.  I looked up and saw the picture of him wearing those for the first time when he was 6 months old.  I decided he needed a picture of him with the original picture.  I can't believe how much he's changed!!!

3/30 Random Things About Me

Describe your relationship with your parents.

I won't get mushy here.  My relationship with my parents is pretty great.  It's been wonderful having them so close since we've had Cael.  I can't imagine what Cael's birth would have been like without my parents there.  Cael sees them every week at least once - sometimes more.  He can go spend the night at their house to give me a break and to get him used to not being with me 100% of the time.  I can talk to my parents about anything and I know that they will always be there for me.  They were there during all the crap at my old job and have been so supportive since I opened this little daycare (which is really booming I might add!).  I love them!!

I feel like I should add my in-laws in here.  My mother-in-law, Shirley, has been gone for 9 years this summer.  I can't believe she's been gone so long.  She would LOVE Cael & be so proud of Courtney for what he is doing in his life.  My relationship with her was amazing & I am so glad I got time with her.

My father-in-law, Calvin, and mother-in-law, Donna, are amazing too!  We love when we get to spend time with them and Cael loves it, too.  They came up the day Cael was born and took care of our house, dogs & us for 5 days.  I don't know how we would have done it without them!  We just wish they lived a little closer so we could see them more often!

2/30 Random Facts About Me

Describe 3 legitimate fears you have and explain how they became fears.

1. Something happening to someone I love.
I think it's a pretty natural fear to have that something bad will happen to someone you love.  Especially since I am a mommy I fear that something bad will happen to my son.  You hear too many crazy stories about bad things happening.  I will always work to make sure my family is safe & happy.  I don't want anything bad to happen to any of the people I care for.

2. Wrecking my car.
I HATE driving when it's raining or snowing or if there is ice on the ground.  I have had a wreck before and it scares the crap out of me!!  I especially don't want to wreck when I have Cael with me.

3.  Being alone outside after dark.
I don't like going anywhere after dark by myself.  I especially don't like being in a parking lot after dark by myself!!  No I'm crazy enough that I look under my car so someone doesn't come out from under it & cut my achilles tendon but I do look in the back of the van as I walk to the front.  I always have my key out so I can stab someone with it if I need to.  And yes I carry a pocket knife in my purse.  Don't mess with me after dark!

1/30 Random Things about Me

List 20 random things about yourself.
1.  I am now a master at changing poopy diapers.  I don't even want to think about the number of diapers I now change in 1 day.  It is crazy!  I can change a diaper so fast.  Not quite sure if that's something I should be proud of....

2. I can stick my entire fist in my mouth.  Don't ask why I started doing this but I've been doing it for years.  The trick is to fold your thumb into the palm of your hand and then tuck your fingers in between your lip & the front of your bottom row of teeth.  Then you roll the rest of your fist back into your mouth.  I already told you - don't ask why I did it the first time!  Maybe that's something I shouldn't be proud of too....

3. I sleep with a fan blowing on me full blast every night.  Yes even in the winter.  I remember when this all started.  One day I had a fever & I was so stinking hot!  I grabbed our big box fan because I was so hot & LOVED the cool air & the sound of the fan so it stuck.  If I don't have a fan I don't sleep.  Like at all.  When we iced in at Washington, KS, one night with all of the Sabetha wrestlers & I had no fan.  I did not sleep at all that night & it was the longest night of my life.  For that reason I now keep a small fan in my van.

4. I just put a load of whites in the washing machine!

5. I miss having somewhere to go everyday.  I love being at my home with my son because I can get things done around the house.  Our house is actually cleaner than it was when I was working outside of the home.  I know that seems backwards but it's true!  All of that being said - I go stir crazy sometimes being home ALL. THE. TIME.  It's crazy when going to Wal-Mart or Dillons is exciting!  I like when I can go somewhere by myself for just a little bit.  And if I can make it to the bathroom without someone following me it's a great day!  Teaching was hard but I honestly think this daycare is harder at times.  And now with all of that being said - I don't know what I want to do with my life now!!  I ALWAYS knew I wanted to teach but with everything that happened I'm not so sure.  I'm not sure if I want to have a daycare for the rest of my life either.  Life is confusing right now.  :(

6. I am sad that As The World Turns is no longer on TV.  It would be nice to have a show on every day at the same time so I can watch it & relax while the kiddos are napping.  Or just to be able to record it & watch it later.  I now love Super Nanny but she isn't on every single day.  :(

7. My husband & I have a mild obsession with The Walking Dead.  O.M.Goodness!!!  Courtney's been watching it since the beginning but it's on when I am putting Cael to bed so I couldn't watch with him.  A few weeks ago he busted out the DVDs he's made from recording them & said we could get me caught up in time for last night's season finale.  I thought I would hate it because, let's be quite honest, zombies are gross!  I couldn't have been more wrong!  I really really like it!!  However, I am afraid it might be going even more weird & unrealistic in Season 3.  I guess we'll have to see!

8. We also really enjoy NCIS and currently have the episode from 2 weeks ago waiting to be watched.  We can usually watch that show while Cael is awake but 2 weeks ago we were busy & couldn't watch.  We need to get it watched before tomorrow night!

9. My toe nails are currently bright pink.  I love to have my toes painted!  It started in Puerto Rico when I could wear flip flops every day.....boy how I miss that!  I don't do a very good job keeping them painted here.  I also don't do a good job of taking care of my finger nails either.  :(  I wish I could afford to have a pedicure & manicure every month!  Throw in a massage & a facial and I'd be set!!

10. I really hope it rains & storms today!  I love spring weather.  I even love an occassional thunderstorm!  I don't ever wish for a tornado because that is some scary crap but I love a good storm.  Looks like we might get one today.  :)

11. Cael is the real master of my phone.  I now have a smart phone.  Why I don't know but I am thoroughly enjoying having it.  Cael, however, is more versed in using it than I am!  How??  He's 2 years old!!  He is crazy smart for his 2 years.  I am afraid he is smarter than me and I'm 30 years older than him.  I am imagining this is how my husband was at 2 years old.

12. I am Superwoman.  Yep, you heard me.  I am Superwoman!  Giving birth to a breech baby with no drugs will do that to you.  Seriously - if there is ever something happening to me that I think I can't handle I remember that I am Superwoman.

13. My husband is currently at the Good Will looking for a playpen for me to use outside.  I have babies that need to be able to play outside but I don't want to put them on the grass and they can't walk.  I found one made for outside on craigslist but haven't ever heard back from anyone.  So we'll look for a different one and hope it's just as good.

14. Courtney heads to Minnesota on Thursday of this week & I'm sad about that.  :(  One of our boys from Sabetha is getting married on Saturday.  I don't feel like I've been open long enough to shut down for a couple of days.  I could have someone watch the kiddos on Friday but Courtney really wants to leave on Thursday.  Cael & I are going to (hopefully!) have a fun weekend ourselves!!

15. I have 3 scars beside my left eye.  I had a small scratch there from bumping my head on the wood at Pizza Hut.  Not too long after that I got chicken pox.  I had one on top of the scratch.  I apparently scratched the pock off during the night so I had the scar from that & the scab from the scratch came off also.  Just above that is another scar....I have NO idea where it came from!  It just appeared one day.

16.  I could really use a nap right now.  All but 1 of my daycare kiddos is asleep.  I wish I could sleep!

17. I am struggling to come up with 20 random facts about myself!  This is not as easy as you would think.

18. I love to sing.  I think I'm pretty good at it if I do say so myself.  I'm not saying I would win any competitions if I were to try, I'm not saying I would even try to enter a competition!  I love to sing in my car but I get embarrassed if I'm close to any other cars so I stop at stoplights, etc.  I don't want people talking about that crazy lady singing loud in her car!

19. I am 8 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight.  :(  Yes it's just 8 pounds so that's pretty good but Cael is 2 1/2 years old!!  That being said I would love to lose 23 pounds to be where I was in Puerto Rico.  Now if I could just have my tan back I'd be set!

20. I have 3 tattoos & I really want to get my 4th this weekend (but I probably won't).  I have my star, my butterfly & my turtle.  I really want one on my foot!

Yay!  I did it!  20 random & boring facts about myself.  I know you are all very excited about this!

I have to add a #21 courtesy of my sister, Jizzle.

21. You are the absolutely best at creating dances to go with songs. Not like choreographed dances, but literal hand gestures and faces that go with every line of the song. It's one of my absolute favorite things you do. We have eyes like twins...

She's totally right - I am awesome at that!

Lovin' this weather!

Yesterday it was so nice that Cael & I went outside to play for a good long while.  We waited until daycare friends were gone because it was sooooo muddy from our day of rain on Sunday.  I didn't want to have to clean up all of their shoes!!  And I have to say - I was skeptical about having a fancy phone.  It's expensive to keep the data package & we're still trying to get on our feet again.  BUT....I LOVE my phone!!  I love how easy it is to take a good picture & e-mail it or post it on facebook or whatever.  You should love my new phone too because I have a feeling you will have lots more pictures to enjoy!!

We worked on fine motor skills (tearing paper :)) at daycare.  Cael wanted to try his hand at gluing - Lord help me!

Last week & the weekend

Last week we had the winter sports banquet.  Cael, of course, didn't want to eat anything good.  I think he took a few bites of pizza but then he wanted cupcakes & cookies.  We told him no but Jared, his "wrestle boy", took him to the dessert table and he picked a "blue cupcake".  I wanted to take his picture and realized that he had figured out that you can take black & white pictures with my phone.  Wow.  We might have our hands full with this guy!  The pictures still turned out cute!

 "Take me picture Mommy!"

Saturday we went to Dick's & The Cheesecake Factory with Grammy & Papa.  Cael had afun putting with Papa.  Are we going to take up golf??

Yesterday we went to the new Hibbitt Sports here in LV and found some Rams hats.  I was excited because they didn't say St. Louis on them anywhere - I might have to go back & buy one because they're on sale right now.  I need a good hat to wear to baseball games!  Cael wore a hat & carried a baseball all over the store!  He's ready for Rams baseball!!

Then he HAD to have a bat to go with everything else.  He tried so hard to throw the ball in the air & hit it!  Could be an interesting season this year.  I have no idea what to expect with the weather since it's been so unpredictable lately.  And the fact that I have kids until between 5 & 5:30 now will make it a little difficult.  Luckily there aren't many games that are too far away.  My goal will be to be ready to leave before all the kids are gone so we can pull out of the driveway as soon as everyone is gone.  We'll see how we do!  It's a good thing they always play 2 games!

Cael pictures

I know there are some people (Curtis & Joy) that read this thing that would rather see pictures of Cael than read boring stories about us so here you are!

Cael, daddy & Miller chilling on Cael's bed.  He loves to have the dogs on his bed.  In fact, Winston has been sleeping with him!

 Cael loves his doggies!!

Cael took this picture of Miller himself.  Pretty good for a 2 year old!

He also took this picture.  You can't see it but I'm having to hold his other arm down so he doesn't stick it on the camera.

We took this one on my new phone (love!) while at lunch with Grammy yesterday.

Our trip to the winery

Over the weekend Courtney & I finally go to do his Christmas present from me.  First we went to Weston, MO, to eat at O'Malleys.  They have a big pub that you have to walk down these crazy stairs & ramps to get to their dungeon....I can't imagine walking out of there drunk!  They also have a really good restaurant.  After eating we drove downtown and walked for a little bit because we had time.  While we were walking to a cigar shop we saw this alley.  They were playing Spanish music!  The alley (minus the Evergreen tree!) with the music playing so reminded us of Puerto Rico!!  We went to the cigar shop and it still reminded us of Puerto Rico.  They were rolling cigars & there were people at a table drinking beer & smoking cigars.  We sure miss Puerto Rico!  After that we drove to Platte City, MO, to the Jowler Creek Winery.  While we were driving we go to listen to the sub state girls finals which Sabetha was playing in.  I got to hear some of my girls names from when I taught 2nd grade there.

When we got to the winery this is how our tables were set up.  We had no idea what would happen!

This was my part of the table.  As you can see we've got 3 cups of wine & juice.  The wine on the left was a "young" wine so it was pretty strong.  In the middle was grape juice - I have the exact same kind in my fridge!  And the wine on the right was really yummy.  You have 6 glasses & a medicine dropper.  You got to take drops from whatever cup you wanted & mix them all together.  You wrote down how many mL you dropped in the glass & that's how you recorded what you liked & didn't like.  Then you multiplied that number by 75 to fined out how much you needed for your big bottle.  It was a lot of fun mixing them together & tasting them all.  We tasted A LOT of wine!

The wine maker that was in charge took our picture.

This is Courtney getting the "young" wine for his mix.

Then you pour the wines into your bottle.

I got some of the "young" stuff too.

More of the table while we were mixing.

I just thought this was a neat picture.

Courtney said this was the only time he'd be able to tell me to "Put a cork in it!" and get away with it.  I am so strong.  That cork didn't stand a chance against me!

"Yeah, put a cork in it Marsh!"

Here are our 2 bottles of wine!  We were told that we need to drink our wine fairly soon because the sugar from the juice will continue to make everything ferment.  That will cause the gas to build up and it can pop the cork off and send wine flying!

All of their wines have a drawing of an animal on them.  This was my favorite of course because it's a squirrel.

Post state wrestling family time

After the finals on Friday night we drove to Sharon's to get Cael & hang out for a while.  We ended up going to Grandma Hoard's house in Miltonvale to hang out & have lunch.  We had to look through her pasture to see if there were any treasures we wanted.  Cael was pretty excited about the cows!!

I love the cow behind him!!

One of the treasures we claimed!  Grandma bought this wagon in 1958 when Shirley was 2 years old.  She didn't have a car & it was just her so she bought it to carry Calvin & Shirley around town!  How neat that he gets this wagon that his Grammy Shirley rode in at his age!!

I don't know if we are getting this treasure or not but it's one of Shirley's tricycles!!

Andy gets one of Grandpa's old saws.  Travis wanted to see if he could cut a tree down with it.

This is in front of the old farm that Grandpa Hoard lived in before he married Grandma.  They still own it & all of the land.  I really wanted pictures of Courtney & Cael in front of it & I finally got my wish!

The kids got to hang out in the Blazer while we took turns shooting out at the farm.

Overall it was a great weekend!  Next weekend Courtney & I finally get to do his Christmas present.  We are going to Jowler Creek Winery in Platte City, MO to make our own wine & we get to bring home a bottle!  I'm pretty excited!  The weekend after that is the opera on Sunday so Cael will get to spend 2 weekends in a row with Grammy!!  I'm hoping to get pictures of Courtney & I at the winery next weekend - we'll see!

State Wrestling 2012

We got home from our state wrestling "weekend" last night.  We are all pretty tired but hanging in there!  Cael & I drove out to Hays Wednesday night - they moved state to Thursday & Friday this year because Fort Hays was hosting some other things Saturday & Sunday.  We got there late Wednesday & Cael got a 2nd wind.  He did not want to go to sleep!  Thursday we were at wrestling all day and Travis & Nicole were there.  Travis took Cael to Russell to meet Wilbur so he could spend some quality time with AJ, KayLynn, Auntie Sharon & Uncle Wilbur.  I was disappointed that he would miss the 2nd day but I knew he would have fun.  All 3 of our boys made it to Friday but our 113 pounder was out Friday morning & our 120 pounder was 1 match away from medaling.  Our 152 pounder went on to get 2nd place!  We were pretty excited.  We were definitely hoping for 1st but we'll take 2nd!

One of the boys had a pillow pet that Cael was wrestling.  Then Coach had to play "hide the coin" with Cael - who of course found it every time!  Cael did so great Thursday while he was there.  I was very proud of him!!

This was the "parade of champions" & Jared getting ready for finals.

Lookin' all spiffy!  They were even on TV!
