I'm back!

I know for most people 2 weeks is no big deal. But for those of us who follow blogs it's a lifetime! I apologize to those of you, if there are any, that follow this blog for not updating it lately. Let's get a recap of the last few weeks.

Two weeks ago the Dill family came through Leavenworth & stayed with us. It was so nice to get to see them again. That's twice this summer which is more than in the last 2 years!! It was a quick visit. Miller had his surgery the day they arrived so we wanted to stick close to home to keep an eye on him. The next morning Kate & I had pedicures. It was a nice quiet time.

After that we've just been taking it easy. I've been tutoring all summer so I continued with that. Cael went to Minneapolis and spent some quality time with his Auntie Sharon for a few days. Courtney & I met her & Nicole in Topeka to make the hand off. He was there Tuesday night, Wednesday & Thursday and Courtney & I went to Minneapolis Thursday night. We were playing in a mud volleyball tournament at the fair that night. Yep you guessed it! We sucked! We actually didn't suck as bad as any of us thought we would so that was good. The first game we lost 15-8 but the second game was only 15-12. The next morning we got up & took Cael to have his picture taken. It will be his second time in the Minneapolis Messenger for the Future Leaders of Tomorrow edition. Last time his picture was taken he was 5 weeks old. Now it didn't run until he was 5 months old but still. This time he was 13 months old...we'll see how old he is when it comes out! I can't wait to get the picture back so I can post it - it is adorable!! We had to come back Friday night because Miller was supposed to get taken care of Saturday but if you scroll down a few posts you'll find out what happened.

Last weekend we went to my mom & dad's apartment for lunch with Aunt Sandi. Courtney & I took some time to go shopping. I have lost 12 pounds in the last month which thrills me!! Luckily Old Navy was having a sale for teachers - 25% off!! Woo whoo!! Mama saved over $100!!! This is the first time in 2 years that I've been excited about my clothes for school. Finally my maternity clothes are too big. Of course my pre-pregnancy clothes are still too small but I'm working on it. For those woman who bounce back to their old bodies just days or weeks after delivering....you make me sick!!! It has taken me a year to accept that my body is not the same & it is hard to get back to where I was but I'm getting there. I tried on clothes and bought several outfits for the start of school. Am I happy about how I look in them? Not really but I don't completely hate how I look either. And that is what I like to call progress!! Tomorrow I get to wear one of my new outfits when I work enrollment at school. Not really too excited about it but I get paid so I'll survive!

We haven't been doing much else. I've been tutoring. Courtney's been doing stuff around the house. Cael's been playing. The dogs have been lazy. I start back to work on Monday which doesn't thrill me but then again they didn't ask my opinion! Courtney has to go back 1 day next week & then he starts back I think 2 weeks later. They have to wait until the county fair is over. Must be nice!!

I will try to keep this more updated. Once school & sports start there will be more fun pictures of Cael I'm sure. Have a great rest of the week!

Cael's first sloppy joe

Cael is now eating normal people food. At first he would eat whatever we gave him but now he has to eat whatever we are eating. If he doesn't get what we have he throws a fit!

Poor Miller!

WARNING!!! Before you look at the pictures - be prepared for your butt to tingle when you see them.

Several weeks ago Miller got cauliflower ear again. If you remember he got it in Puerto Rico and had surgery. When he got it we took him to the vet & had it drained. A few day later it came back & his ear was huge! We called around & got the best price for another surgery. Courtney took him in 2 weeks ago today. When he brought him home he said, "Miller has a button in his ear!" I had no idea what he was talking about. When I got to see him he had the huge cone around his head. I couldn't believe he left it on! That night I saw his ear. There isn't 1 button, there aren't 3 buttons, there are 6 buttons....on EACH SIDE of his ear!! 12 buttons in his ear!!!! Yes people I mean buttons. Like buttons on your shirt or pants. According to the vet it will cut down on the scar tissue & it should pop back up. We were supposed to get the buttons out the following Wednesday but they didn't take them out. So we were supposed to get them out last Saturday....but they didn't take them. The finally took the buttons out yesterday. He still has to wear the cone until tomorrow night to keep him from scratching at it while it continues to heal. Poor baby!!!

¡De nada españa!

We don't usually watch soccer but we did watch the finals of the World Cup. The day of the finals I was trying to get Cael dressed. He has 2 soccer jerseys: Spain & Brasil. So that day I was trying to get him dressed & he was being a pill. He was crawling all over, wanted to climb on everything & wanted to play with all of his toys. I finally got him to sit down and we had a talk. I said, "Son, the entire country of Spain is counting on you to put this jersey on. If you don't they won't win! You didn't wear your Brasil jersey & look what happened to them!!" After he looked at me like I was a crazy woman & Courtney laughed at me (he was listening through the monitor) he put the jersey on. We went out & watched the rest of the game. And for those of you who haven't heard...Spain won!! You're welcome Spain!

The Dills were here!

Well actually they were in Salina & Minneapolis. They were headed to Colorado, South Dakota, etc., etc. so they stopped for a visit since we were on their way. It was a lot of fun to finally get to see Hattie & Cael together. And yes, we were right, it was love at first sight!! They got to Sharon's house Wednesday evening & we just hung out for a while. Hattie, Cael & AJ were playing. Hattie was so funny because she would take things out of Cael's hands & say, "Mine!" and then lean over & kiss him. He didn't seem to mind. He just moved on & played with something else. Well, then AJ started doing the same thing!! Poor Cael - outnumbered by girls! Courtney, Brent & Curt went to go get beer so after the kiddos went down Kate & I got to hang out & talk. It was just like old times! Here are AJ & Cael playing before the Dills arrived.

Thursday morning we got up & went to Rock City. Brent could hardly contain himself he was so excited!! We had fun going into the gift shop (did you know they had one of those?) and then walking around the rocks.

After Rock City we headed to Rolling Hills. It had been 7 years since Courtney & I went there. For those of you who don't know, Rolling Hills is basically a zoo. We had a lot of fun & the kids were great!! They each had their moments of being fussy - especially when it was lunch time - but all in all they did great! We got to feed the giraffes which was fun. Unfortunately only 2 prairie dogs came out. We went to the petting zoo & Cael loved it!! Curtis held him so he could feed the animals & pet them. A bunch of the animals licked him & he laughed every time! Both kids fell asleep in the car on the way home & slept for another hour or so once we got back to Sharon's.

After the kids woke up from their naps we drove to Salina to stay at a hotel. We went to dinner with Calvin & Donna. Hattie & Cael sat by each other & even shared some food! Courtney got up to go to the bathroom & Hattie said, "Bye bye" and then Cael said it!! Plain as day!! Everyone at the table just looked at him. Of course he hasn't done it since. After that we went back to the hotel & went swimming. It was Cael's first time in a pool! It was his first time even in swim trunks!! He did really good & seemed to enjoy himself. Hattie let him borrow her floaty & he was so funny! He always crosses his feet...even in the water! He just laid back & relaxed. The next morning we got up & had breakfast and went swimming again. Then we had lunch before the Dills left. The kids loved each other the whole time. They were kissing each other & playing. They are going to be coming back through this way this week so we'll get to see them again. Knowing that made saying goodbye much easier! Courtney made the comment that since we've been back from Puerto Rico we haven't seen the Dills where at least one of us was not pregnant. The first time we saw them we were both pregnant, the 2nd time I was pregnant & Hattie had just been born and this time Kate's pregnant!! And it's a girl!!! Don't worry, the Marsh family is not planning on joining this time!

Spaghetti!!

Cael's first spaghetti meal was a success!! And I got to wash it out of his nose, ear, hair, etc... Small price to pay for a happy baby!
